Organization and leadership in social work

According to you, why is organization and leadership essential in social work? Name some of the approaches of organization and leadership relevant to social work from your experiences. Also, what are some of the drawbacks in organizational leadership and management you have experienced personally (either as a client or as an employee)?  (300 words).
Social work also means social service, it aims to help individuals who are in great need of help, disadvantaged groups and certain communities by offering them psychological consult, guide, assistance and in the form of social services particularly. Organization and leadership are both important factors in enterprise management. Bennis and Nanus once define leadership as a hateful snowman who has his footprints here and there but who is nowhere to be seen ((Bennis and Nanus, 1985). And they are more important in social work. The target customers of social work mostly have some problems in physical and psychological aspect, so it is more difficult to help them than normal people. I have been worked as a social work to help teenagers who are living poor areas and eager to learn knowledge. Six teachers from our social organization are sent to teach these children. I am one of them and I am responsible to teach them English. The company communicates with some local citizens to provide us a place to live. And some plans are made to guide us what to do step by step. All plans seem to be perfect but there are some practical problems existing when we teach. For instance, some poor children whose parents are migrant workers working in big cities. They have some psychological problems, they do not like to talk with others because they have inferiority complex. I have some difficulties in teaching them, especially the English subject. English is a subject which needs students’ reaction to a large extent. However, most of students are too shy to exchange ideas with me. It is a really tough job for me to teach them English, besides, their English pronunciation is bad and there is a necessary for me to correct their pronunciation. These are all problems originating from bad organization and leadership. Company need to organize a special sector specialized in psychological consult. Thus more students’ psychological problems will be settled down and some teaching problems related to psychological problems can be solved accordingly.
What are some of the ethical dilemmas social workers can face in organizational settings? How can social workers deal with these ethical dilemmas? Discuss with the help of course literature and your own thoughts (400words).
Social workers may face four kinds of ethical dilemmas when they are engaged in social work. First of all, clients have their own right to determine their own things and one of the most important principles of social work is to respect these clients’ determination (www.51fabiao.org/dxassignment/ Blanchard and Peale, 1988). No matter whether a social worker agrees with the client’s words and actions, he must respect his client’s determination and solutions to problems ( Byrne,1988). Of course, a social worker should offer his own guidance in order to help his customers explore their choices, but he had better not allow his personal ideas or biases to affect his client. It is a tough difficulty caused by social workers’ eager to act to maximum the client’s interests and the social worker has to respect the customer’s right to act in his own way that he thinks is a good choice. Secondly, the contradiction between clients’ right to confidentiality and their right to self –determination is the common ethical dilemma faced by both fresh and experienced social workers. This ethical dilemma is very common in clients’ suicide cases. It is social worker’s responsibility to respect a customer’s right to confidentiality, so he can not reveal a customer’s information without the customer’s previous or written consent. Social worker also has to respect a customer’s right to choose his favorite action. However, in the suicide case, a social worker has to break his promise of keeping client’s privacy in order to protect his customer or other related people. Thirdly, each social worker has his own value or belief. And it is common that social workers’ beliefs have a contradiction with their customers’. For instance, social workers who have some believes about abortion will confront an ethical dilemma when they manage to help a teenager who becomes pregnant and wants to abort. Sometimes, the social workers have to abandon their own moral values. Fourthly, making friends with a client seems to be an ordinary thing but it is forbidden according to the social workers’ working rules ( Lankard,1987). If a social worker does not or ends contact with a customer, the relations with clients will be over, too. For instance, a social worker may meet a previous customer and his family in a shop. But his customer can not be ignored by the social client, so the social worker has to know how far to make his interaction with required profession and sound judgments. It is really a hard job though it is not common ethical dilemma faced by social workers.
